🏝️ The Best Team on The Island

Stony Brook wins the 2022 Long Island Cup and more from the weekend in lacrosse

πŸ—³οΈ Week 3 Media Poll

Maryland (#1) remains atop the polls; Jacksonville (#8) becomes the highest-ranked SoCon team in history.

Penn (#5) jumps 10 spots (!!) after an overtime win against Duke (#10) on Long Island.

The lone newcomer this week: Boston University (#20)

Let's recap the past weekend of lacrosse.

🦁 Penn State upsets Yale, 10-6

After a difficult 1-3 start, the Nittany Lions beat Yale for the first time since March 12th, 1997.

1997.

A month before Grant Ament was born on April 15th, 1997.

Goalie Aleric Fyock made 21 saves to hold the Bulldogs to their lowest offensive output since March 5th, 2017 against Bryant in the pre-shot clock era.

🏝️ The Best Team on The Island

Congrats to Stony Brook on winning the first-ever Long Island Cup -- a Beanpot-style four-team tournament between the Seawolves, Hofstra, LIU, and St. John's.

Stony Brook (4-0) received votes in the poll. Led by Maryland transfer Dylan Pallonetti (9G, 10A) and Michigan transfer Kevin Mack (7G, 10A), the Seawolves will look to turn some more heads on Saturday at home against #4 Rutgers.

🐚 Shelly put up a casual 3G, 4A

We might need to designate one spot per week to a Shelly highlight.

🚨 GOALIE GOAL

John Galloway's Dolphins are ROLLING. Their "upset" over Duke was no fluke; since that game, Jacksonville has rattled off four more wins...

  • at Mercer, 21-12

  • Marquette, 14-10

  • at Denver, 11-9

  • at Air Force, 15-9

Goalie Luke Millican even got in on the scoring on Sunday afternoon.

πŸ“½οΈ Film Study: Asher Nolting vs. Navy

High Point attack Asher Nolting is one of the most physical dodgers in the country. The Panthers have asked him to do everything offensively over the past five years.

Nolting is approaching 300 career points (122G, 165A). He's an intriguing PLL prospect. Some are concerned with his turnovers; but he wouldn't need to carry double teams in the pros like he does now, and his ability to create his own shot against slow-to-go defenses is key.

Coach Pugh put together a thread breaking down Asher Nolting's 8-point game against Navy. Here are the highlights with Coach Pugh's thoughts:

"Goal #1 vs entire NAVY D + the FLEX!!! Is this a fake inside roll (ROCKER)??? YES."

"Goal #2 looking like Joey Spallina!!!"

"Dodging topside from corner of box, and dropping DIME #1"

"NAVY paying close attention to the 2 crease cutters, opens up the pretty skip to #43 Nick Rizzo!!! #REPS"
