πŸ™ A Very Special Player(s) Of The Week

John Holcomb and Harris Jaffe earned this week's POTW honors.

John collapsed and suffered a sudden seizure during the game between Clemson and Indiana (MCLA) β€” That’s when Harris sprung into action using his EMT skills to help his fallen opponent. Both Harris and Liberty's on-site Athletic Trainer Kira Turner performed chest compressions until John’s vitals improved and first responders arrived to the scene.

We’re very glad John is stable and doing well β€” in his words β€œWe’re Still Here!"

πŸŽ™οΈ Overtime: Season 5, Episode 1

Paul Rabil retired this offseason as one of the most successful players in the history of the sport. He leaves the field as pro field lacrosse's all-time leading scorer.

Now, he's poised to become one of lacrosse's most influential figures, leading the growth of the Premier Lacrosse League. He may be finished playing lacrosse at its highest level, but his fire to see the sport become mainstream continues to burn.

Rabil sat down with Paul Carcaterra to share his story, why he remains loyal to Dave Pietramala, how Michael Jordan shaped his mentality, and why he's inspired for the future of the PLL.

🐢 Roy Meyer leads Boston U defense

The Boston University defense has allowed just 38 goals in five games (7.60 per game). USA Lacrosse Magazine DI Men's Player of the Week Roy Meyer (5CT, 4GB) and the Terriers held Bucknell to just two second-half goals last week.

Meyer is the most recent in a long line of talented BU LSMs. Reece Eddy (Cannons LC) and Chase Levesque have both made an impact at the pro level.

Per Lacrosse Reference's bracketology simulations, BU has a 35.5% chance of making the tournament -- the highest of any team in the Patriot League.

🍿 #1 vs. #2 Β²

Quite possibly the best weekend of lacrosse this season – Both men's and women's D1 will have a battle between the #1 and #2 teams in the country.

Particularly interesting is a rematch of Maryland / UVA: last year's championship game where the Cavaliers defeated the Terps 17-16 in an absolute thriller.

+ the rematch of last year's semi-final of Boston College / UNC. The Eagles won 11-10 against the opposing Tar Heels on the way to their eventual Championship trophy.

😈 The Evolution of Cat Barry

With 1:51 to play against Pittsburgh, Duke graduate student Cat Barry took a pass from junior Olivia Carner. She danced along the left side of the crease before firing a shot over the head of Pitt goalie Paulina DiFatta. Barry won the ensuing draw, and the Blue Devils held on for the 15-14 win. Rewind the film and watch it in slow motion, and you’ll see the play unfold just as Barry did. In a furious finish, Barry managed to slow the game down for herself.

β€œWe always say, β€˜See the cage,’” said head coach Kerstin Kimel. β€œYou see her pause for a split second to see the cage and make sure she buries that shot.”

The moment was the culmination, not of four quarters of play but of five years of highs and lows for Barry in a Duke uniform. Barry knows what it feels like to lose β€” the Blue Devils missed the NCAA Tournament in her first two seasons. She also experienced what it felt like to win last season when Duke made the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals. When Kimel slowed down the film of Barry’s game-winner last week, she could almost see the graduate student channeling all of those experiences in a matter of milliseconds.

β€œWould freshman Cat Barry have made that play? I don’t know, but certainly, in the moment, she was able to call on all of her experience and perspective to make a play for us,” said Kimel. β€œIt’s a testament to her work ethic, how much she has grown as a player and leader and how she has sustained the ups and downs.”
