👀 THE GOALS RECORD WILL FALL!
Forget Alex Ovechkin, Cornell attackman CJ Kirst is set to shatter the all-time NCAA goals record.
Everyone is talking about the goals record.
No, not Alex Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s career NHL goals record. We’re talking about the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse career goals record. Cornell star CJ Kirst is closing in QUICKLY on the record currently held by Payton Cormier (224).
With 45 goals on the season, Kirst is just 14 goals away from tying Cormier’s record. Here’s where he stacks up currently on the all-time leaderboard:
Payton Cormier, Virginia (224)
Mac O’Keefe, Penn State (221)
Justin Guterding, Duke (212)
Dyson Williams, Duke (212)
CJ Kirst, Cornell (210)
Brennan O’Neill, Duke (207)
Zack Greer, Duke (206)
Logan Wisnauskas, Maryland (205)
Chris Gray, Boston/North Carolina (204)
Jared Bernhardt, Maryland (202)
Just when you thought you've seen CJ Kirst do everything, he scores a "Poke Check" goal 💥
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kirst is coming off a six-goal performance against Albany on Tuesday. He has scored at least six goals (also known as a “sock trick”) in five out of nine games played this season. His best single-game performance was a nine-goal outing against Yale.
With Cornell sitting at No. 1 and poised to go on a deep postseason run, here’s a look at Kirst’s potential remaining schedule (maximum of 10 more games):
April 5 — at Brown
April 12 — vs. Syracuse (Long Island, N.Y.)
April 19 — at Harvard ***Kirst is on pace to break the record in this game
April 26 — vs. Dartmouth
May 2 — Ivy League Semifinals
May 4 — Ivy League Championship
May 10/11 — NCAA Tournament Round 1
May 17/18 — NCAA Quarterfinals
May 24 — NCAA Semifinals
May 26 — NCAA Championship
Kirst is the favorite to win this year’s Tewaaraton Award and a virtual lock to go No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia Waterdogs in the upcoming PLL Draft.

📊 Carcaterra Drops PLL Draft Big Board
ESPN Analyst Paul Carcaterra has dropped his first PLL Draft Big Board of the 2025 season, and it’s no surprise to see CJ Kirst at the No. 1 spot.

“CJ Kirst will obliterate the NCAA all-time goal scoring record,” Carcaterra said, via the PLL. “If Cornell reaches Championship Weekend, he is on pace for 250 goals and will have played less games than every player who finished in the top 10.”
Carcaterra has moved Notre Dame’s Chris Kavanagh up to the No. 2 spot behind Kirst (Kavanagh was ranked No. 6 in his “Way Too Early” Big Board, which dropped in May of 2024). Kavanagh’s Fighting Irish attack linemate Jake Taylor (ranked No. 8, up from No. 13) is also on the rise.
Levi Verch (St. Joe’s) remains Carc’s favorite long pole, but Scott Smith (Hopkins) has overtaken Brendan Lavelle (Penn) as the highest-ranked close defenseman. Emmet Carroll (Penn) is still the top-ranked option at goalie.
The draft will be held on May 6 and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
📺 New Episode of The Mitchell Pehlke Show!
We told you on Tuesday that Ohio State goalie Caleb “Big Tasty” Fyock would be on the Mitchell Pehlke Lacrosse Show this week. During his interview, Fyock shed some light on the Buckeyes 10-1 start to the season. The Buckeyes are undefeated when Fyock starts in net this year.
Fyock also talked about the rivalry with Michigan, who won the Big Ten Championship at Ohio State last season.
“They celebrated on our field last year, got all these fireworks,” Fyock said. “This year it’s at their home. We want to win that game.”
In addition to the interview with Fyock, we broke down the latest news in college lacrosse and the PLL, listened to voicemails from fans who shouted out their favorite announcers of all time (in honor of Mitch calling a game for Big Ten Network), and played Start/Bench/Cut with a few of the greatest saves in college lacrosse history (since we had Fyock on to talk goalies).
🍿 New WLL Documentary With Holmans
A new documentary from the Women’s Lacrosse League titled “For Something Bigger” pulls back the curtain on Championship Series and goes behind the scenes with Maryland Charm star Alex Aust-Holman, as well as her husband Marcus Holman (Boston Cannons attackman).
Watch Part 1 of the documentary here:
The Charm did not have the best run at Champ Series, but competing in the WLL meant something special for Aust-Holman, who longed for an opportunity to play on a bigger professional stage before calling it a career.
“You’re coming out of retirement for this,” Marcus jokes in a candid moment at the Homan house before Champ Series.
“I didn’t retire!” Alex says back.
If Aust-Holman does make her retirement official, the former Maryland Terrapin’s legacy will forever be remembered by this documentary — which highlights her role in launching and promoting the WLL.
