π± FOUR 1 SEEDS FALL
Conference Tournaments Round-Up | Read TLN's New Digital Cover
Thursday was a chaotic day for conference tournaments across Division I, as four different No. 1 seeds ended up losing. With so many top seeds falling, this opens the door for some under-the-radar teams to earn an automatic qualifier in the NCAA Tournament.
The biggest upset of the day was Michiganβs 17-15 win over Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament. The Wolverines will face Maryland in the conference championship, after already beating the Terps at College Park on April 1.
The most shocking upset may have been High Pointβs come-from-behind win over Saint Joeβs in the A-10 Tournament. The Hawks had not lost in A-10 play all season and held a 10-5 lead at halftime, before ultimately losing 16-14.
Other top seeds to fall on Thursday were Vermont (America East) and Manhattan (MAAC). Albany was able to shut down the Catamounts in a defensive struggle, while Siena beat the Jaspers for the second time this season.
Weβve got more semifinal matchups coming today in the Ivy League, Patriot League and ASUN tournaments. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, weβll see nine different conference champions crowned.
