MARYLAND LOST 😵 HERE'S WHY...

Maryland's 19-Game Win-Streak Comes To an End | Unlimited February Chaos

🧐 HOW Did Maryland Lose to Loyola!?

After 19 straight wins dating back to the start of last season, the Maryland Terrapins have finally lost a game. The Terps made the short trip to Loyola last Saturday and ultimately fell to the Greyhounds by a final score of 12-7.

Maryland took the L, despite holding significant advantages in a few key statistical categories that typically "win" games.

Soooo, how did Maryland lose the game? Here are three reasons...

1. Shooting struggles: The Terps only put 26 of their 42 shots on net (61.9 percent), and 19 of those shots were stopped by Loyola goalie Luke Stoudt.

2. Goalie struggles: Maryland netminder Logan McNaney only saved five shots, and his .294 save percentage vs. Loyola was the lowest he's ever posted in his collegiate career.

3. 4th-quarter struggles: Maryland had 22 turnovers in the loss and six of them came in the fourth quarter, allowing Loyola to outscore the Terps 4-1 in the final frame.

Maryland is no longer unbeatable, and the rest of college lacrosse has Loyola to thank for cracking the code.

🍊 TLN Player of the Week: Joey Spallina

Well, the 1-for-15 chirps didn't last long.

Star freshman Joey Spallina followed up his Syracuse debut with a pair of solid performances against Albany (5 goals) and Holy Cross (5 goals, 2 assists). He's settling in nicely as the primary finisher in the Orange offense, with a team-leading 11 goals through his first three games.

Spallina's first BIG test will come this weekend, when 'Cuse travels outside The Dome for the first time this year to face an angry Maryland team at College Park on Saturday.

⚔️ Cavaliers Rise Above The Chaos

On a Saturday where we saw a ton of WILD upsets, there was one stabilizing force among the Division-I blue bloods: Virginia took care of business at home and beat Michigan, 17-13.

The Cavaliers (now No. 1 in every poll) look like the new team to beat with Maryland going down. Although Michigan kept the game within one goal heading into the fourth quarter, everything seemed to click for Virginia on offense. Even the Ricky Miezan experiment paid early returns, as the former Stanford linebacker scored a goal on his very first offensive touch.

Payton Cormier led the way for Virginia with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists), while Tewaaraton Award candidate Connor Shellenberger and Vermont transfer Thomas McConvey each contributed a hat trick in the win over the Wolverines.

📝 Official Tewaaraton Watch List Revealed

The men's and women's official Tewaaraton Award watch lists were revealed late last week. There are 50 names on each list, and two NON-Division-I athletes were featured among the top men's players in the country.

Maryland led the way with FIVE players on the men's watch list. There were four other teams (Virginia, Georgetown, Ohio State and Rutgers) with three players featured.

Here's how it broke down by conference/division:

📺 Hopkins vs. UNC on TV Tonight

Tuesday Night Lacrosse!? Fire me all the way up.

Tonight, we've got North Carolina visiting Johns Hopkins for a 5 p.m. ET start time on ESPNU. Hopkins' 2-0 start has been well documented, but the Tar Heels flew under the radar with their 25-3 win over Mercer last Saturday.

Without Chris Gray on the roster, UNC didn't have much hype or national expectations entering the season. They could really turn some heads tonight with a win on the road over a red-hot Blue Jays team.
