🏆 NCAA PLAY OF THE YEAR

Voting Open For TLN's Play of the Year Bracket | Two Undefeated PLL Teams Remain

Think back to last February…

What was the best college lacrosse play you remember seeing since then?

We’ve compiled 16 options and seeded them in an NCAA Play of the Year bracket. Check out the full bracket below:

On Tuesday, we opened the first-round of fan voting on the TLN Instagram account. Voting will be broken down into quadrants, with four plays going up against each other at once. One play will advance from each of the four quadrants for a final round of voting next week.

Group A is up first, with Maryland goalie Brian Ruppel’s three-save sequence in overtime against Virginia boasting the top seed. The other plays in this group are Joey Spallina’s (Syracuse) no-look shot vs. Maryland, Logan McGovern’s (UNC) behind-the-back goal vs. Duke, and Jack Lutfi’s (St. John’s) crease dive vs. Denver.

This Brian Ruppel save sequence is the No. 1 seed in TLN’s Play of the Year bracket.

Make sure you’re following TLN on Instagram so you can take part in the voting process over the next week. We hope you enjoy the debate, and we’re eager to see which moment fans select as the 2023 NCAA Play of the Year.

😤 Archers, Redwoods Remain Undefeated

Through two weeks of PLL action, only the Archers and the Redwoods have unblemished, 2-0 records. When you factor in score differential, the Archers (+8) have the most impressive early résumé.

The Cannons and Whipsnakes, on the other hand, are both winless. Everyone else is 1-1 heading into Week 3.

The Archers are starting to look like a complete team. They beat Chrome handily, 12-7, without Grant Ament (hamstring) in the lineup. That’s because they finally have a reliable face-off athlete in rookie Mike Sisselberger, as well as a solid goalie in second-year pro Brett Dobson.

The Redwoods seem to possess some magic this season. They have the PLL’s leading goal-scorer on their roster (Ryder Garnsey, 8 goals) and somehow managed to come back from a 6-0 first-quarter deficit against the Waterdogs last weekend.

It’s still too early to say the Archers and Redwoods are the top two teams in the league. With six out of eight games being decided by just one goal so far, there’s not much separating the top from the bottom in the PLL.

🔵 USA Unveils Blue Chrome Helmets

Team USA has a fresh new look, thanks to Cascade. These blue chrome helmets were unveiled on social media on Monday:

USA will wear these helmets at the World Games in San Diego later this month. They’re competing in Pool A with Canada, Haudenosaunee, Australia and England.

Pool play begins on June 21, with USA taking on Canada at 7 p.m. The first round of the playoffs will start on June 27th, and a gold medal will be awarded on July 1.

USA! USA! USA!
