🥍 NEW STATE ADDING LACROSSE!?

The Nevada State Legislature is considering a bill to officially sanction lacrosse at the high school level.

High school lacrosse is currently sanctioned in 25 out of 50 states nationwide, but a new bill could soon make Nevada the 26th state to officially recognize the sport.

The NLL’s Las Vegas Desert Dogs, along with USA Lacrosse and Nevada State Senator Fabian Doñate, introduced Senate Bill 305 this week. If passed, the bill would require the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) to establish regulations for lacrosse as a state-sanctioned sport.

ABC 8 News (KOLO) in Reno, Nevada was in attendance for the first hearing on Monday, March 17, and reported that “dozens” of players and coaches showed up in support of the bill — many of them wearing their team jerseys.

Nevada high school lacrosse players showed up at a hearing to support Senate Bill 305.

“Not one of these jerseys that you see in this room or the four overflow rooms will ever be recognized as a Varsity athlete in their sports right now,” said Justin Cutler (via ABC 8), who coaches and serves as president of a local Nevada lacrosse club. “I think this is a remarkable and commendable effort to get this bill in front of the Senate to get this bill in support of Nevada student athletes.”

While the decision to pass the bill will ultimately come down to a vote in the Nevada state legislature, ABC 8 reports that the NIAA told the Senate during Monday’s hearing that it opposes the proposal to sanction lacrosse.

“I love lacrosse and I know women’s lacrosse is also popular,” an unnamed spokesperson for the Washoe County School District told ABC 8. “We just saw a number of men testifying on this bill. We want to make sure when sports are in schools that there are sports teams for women as well.”

Six states have sanctioned high school lacrosse since 2017, according to USA Lacrosse: Ohio (2017), Illinois (2018), Utah (2020), Wisconsin (2024), Kentucky (2025) and Tennessee (2025). Will Nevada be the next?

Last summer, Premier Lacrosse League co-founder Paul Rabil said on The Mitchell Pehlke Show that “the next third door” after getting lacrosse into the Olympics is getting high school lacrosse officially sanctioned in all 50 states.

🏟️ PLL Championship Coming to New Jersey

For the first time since 2021, the Premier Lacrosse League will hold its championship game in a new location. After three straight title games at Subaru Park in Philadelphia, the 2025 PLL Championship will be played at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J. — home of the New York Red Bulls (MLS) and NJ/NY Gotham FC (NWSL).

Subaru Park will still host the PLL Semifinals, a week after the quarterfinal round at TCO Stadium in Minneapolis. See the official announcement from the league below…

“These top-performing markets are suited to host our most important games of our season,” PLL co-founder Paul Rabil said in a statement released by the league. “In partnership with each venue operator, we look forward to delivering unforgettable playoff moments for our athletes and fans.”

The PLL is also diving deeper into the conference structure this year, with the top three teams in each conference qualifying for the playoffs. The first two rounds of the playoffs will be separated by Eastern and Western conferences, with the winners from each conference meeting in the PLL Championship.

💪 CJ Kirst Breaks Cornell Goals Record

Cornell attackman CJ Kirst is on a historic tear this season.

After dropping five goals (and two assists) in a win over Princeton on Saturday, Kirst now sits atop the all-time goals leader board at Cornell with 193. The previous record held by Big Red legend Mike French stood for nearly half a century.

CJ Kirst broke Cornell’s all-time goals record on Saturday.

Kirst is now at 40 points on the season and 270 points in his career. He is unlikely to catch Rob Pannell for Cornell’s all-time points record (354), but he might be in range to catch former Virginia attackman Payton Cormier for the all-time NCAA goals record (224).

Kirst needs 31 more goals to tie Cormier’s record and will have at seven more regular-season games to reach it. That’s an average of 4.42 goals per game to hit the record before playoffs start (he’s currently averaging 4.67). With a run a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, Cornell could play up to 13 more games. In that scenario, Kirst would almost certainly own the record.

As Kirst continues to capture records during his dominant senior season, the gap between him and the other Tewaaraton Award hopefuls is widening. He looks like a lock to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 PLL Draft in early May.

👀 UNC’s Humphrey Sisters Taking Over WLAX

While the Kirst family has a case as the most dominant family in men’s lacrosse right now, North Carolina’s Humphrey sisters are simultaneously taking over women’s lacrosse.

In a recent win over Clemson, the Humphrey sisters combined for 15 points. Chloe (redshirt freshman) had six goals and currently ranks sixth in the nation with 35 goals on the season. Ashley (graduate student) tied the program record for assists with eight and now leads the team with 47 points. Nicole (graduate student) scored the last goal of the game.

The Humphrey sisters combined for 15 points against Clemson.

As you can see in the box score above, Ashley assisted her sister Chloe on half of her goals. North Carolina (8-0) is currently undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the nation — behind only ACC rival Boston College (10-0). They play each other in Chapel Hill on April 5.

With the Humphrey connection heating up, look for the Tar Heels to challenge BC’s status as the top team in the country in the coming weeks.

📈 Big Ten Play Begins This Weekend

After a 7-0 start to the season (including a sweep of three ACC opponents), the No. 1 Maryland Terrapins are about to face their next challenge: Big Ten conference play.

Can anyone in the Big Ten challenge Maryland?

Michigan will get the first crack at the Terps this Saturday; the Wolverines have won each of the last three matchups. Penn State (ranked No. 2) and Ohio State (winners of eight straight) could pose a threat down the stretch. Then, there’s “The Rivalry” with Hopkins that’s guaranteed to be a battle.

The best part about Big Ten conference play is the return of what we unofficially call “Sunday Night Lacrosse.” Penn State will host Ohio State in a standalone game on Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday. That’s going to be TLN’s Game of the Week.
