Hereā€™s a snapshot of the moment they flashed Rabil on the jumbotron at the Barclays Centerā€¦

šŸˆĀ Alabama QB Transferring For Lacrosse

If youā€™re a college football fan, you know that Monday was a busy day for the transfer portal. One of the most intriguing names to enter the portal is Tyler Buchner, who played quarterback for Alabama last season and is now listed as a lacrosse player in the transfer portal.

Before deciding to focus solely on football, Buchner was a highly touted lacrosse recruit out of California. He was originally committed to Michigan for lacrosse and was even filmed shooting 100 MPH as a seventh-grader.

Buchner played quarterback at Notre Dame from 2021-22, before transferring to Alabama for the 2023 football season. According to Terry Foy of Inside Lacrosse, Buchner plans on transferring back to Notre Dame and joining the lacrosse team ā€” which won the 2023 NCAA Championship.

Buchner has appeared in 15 football games with Notre Dame and Alabama over the past three seasons, throwing for over 1,000 yards and rushing for nearly 500.

šŸ“ŠĀ PLL Begins Unveiling Players Top 50

On Monday, the Premier Lacrosse League started to unveil The Players Top 50 for the 2023 season. This is the fifth iteration of the list since the leagueā€™s inception, and plenty of new names have already been revealed.

Here are the players whoā€™ve made the list so far:

50. Troy Reh
49. Charlie Bertrand
48. Ethan Walker
47. Ryan Drenner
46. Jarrod Neumann
45. Mike Chanenchuk
44. Matt Moore
43. Dhane Smith
42. Ben Randall
41. Latrell Harris
40. Will Bowen
39. TD Ierlan
38. Tucker Dordevic
37. Matthew Dunn
36. Colin Kirst
35. Jack Kielty
34. Jack Hannah
33. Mike Sisselberger
32. Ethan Rall
31. Grant Ament

Players ranked 30-11 will be revealed throughout the rest of the week. Then, the Top 10 will come out next week.

So far, the most controversial ranking has been Dhane Smith at No. 43. The Chaos midfielder fell 23 spots from his 2022 ranking after tying Jeff Teat for the league lead in assists (25) and finishing behind only Tom Schreiber among all midfielders for total points (30) in 2023. Smith also missed two games.

Speaking of Schreiber, is he a lock to finish atop this list? Heā€™s looking to defend his No. 1 spot after winning league MVP and a PLL Championship this summer. The Archers midfielder has never ranked lower than No. 2 in The Players Top 50.

šŸ¤Ā Miezan Joins ā€˜Woods For Champ Series

Last month, former Stanford linebacker and Virginia midfielder Ricky Miezan was denied eligibility for the 2024 NCAA lacrosse season. As a result, Miezan became immediately available for the 2024 PLL Championship Series and was quickly claimed off waivers by the California Redwoods.

Before playing football at Stanford, Miezan was a stud lacrosse recruit. He showed little rust in his transition back to the sport after transferring to Virginia last year. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound athlete saw playing time in 16 games with the Cavaliers last spring and ended up producing nine points (7 goals, 2 assists).

But now Miezan must adapt again. Champ Series is a Sixes event, meaning the game will be more condensed and far quicker than the NCAA version he played last spring. His brute strength wonā€™t be enough to dominate; heā€™ll need to have a quick and reliable stick to hang with the pros this February.

If Miezan impresses at Champ Series, thereā€™s a chance he could be back with the Redwoods for the 2024 PLL season next summer.

šŸš«Ā Lindenwood Cuts Menā€™s Lacrosse Team

This is disappointing news to report, but Lindenwood University announced last Friday that it will cut its NCAA Menā€™s Lacrosse program at the conclusion of the 2024 spring season. Lindenwood just made the leap to Division I last season and finished with a 2-10 record while competing in the ASUN Conference.

The Lindenwood menā€™s lacrosse team is among 10 athletic programs set to be cut by the University. The decision was made as ā€œa result of a thorough assessment of [the Lindenwood] athletic departmentā€™s sustainability,ā€ according to a press release put out by the University.

TLN will be following the Lindenwood lacrosse team in its final season this spring, and we wish all the players luck wherever the future takes them.
