🤪 FREAKY FRIDAY PLL MOCK DRAFT

Let's have a little fun and imagine the craziest possible 2025 PLL Draft outcome for Round 1.

Okay folks, it’s Friday. Let’s get weird.

The 2025 PLL Draft is less than a month away. Although the top college prospects are starting to come into focus, it’s almost impossible to predict the EXACT order they’ll be selected on draft night.

So, why not have a little fun? The following mock draft is the wildest Round 1 scenario we could concoct, while still being somewhat based in reality. Let’s begin…

1️⃣ Waterdogs: CJ Kirst, Attack, Cornell. Look, we can’t get THAT weird. There’s no way Waterdogs head coach Bill Tierney passes on a talent like Kirst…right??

2️⃣ Chaos (via Redwoods): Chris Kavanagh, Attack, Notre Dame. TRADE! The new Carolina braintrust of Roy Colsey/Spencer Ford is in the market for an offensive spark plug to build around, so they make an aggressive play to trade up and draft Kavanagh. Redwoods GM Joe Spallina, who has been dealing since he got the job, acquires the 5th overall pick and also gets the Chaos’ 2026 first-round pick in this hypothetical deal.

3️⃣ Redwoods: Andrew McAdorey, Midfield, Duke. Spallina wants a dynamic midfielder in this draft, and McAdorey fits the bill. He’s athletic enough to dodge against a long pole and versatile enough to fill multiple roles. He’s also very familiar with Spallina from his time growing up on Long Island and playing club ball with his son Joey.

4️⃣ Cannons: Owen Hiltz, Attack, Syracuse. Wait…WHAT!? Isn’t Coulter Mackesy supposed to be the pick here? How did Hiltz sneak into the top five picks?? Syracuse is starting to heat up, and Hiltz’s draft stock is rising as a Canadian lefty with some Jeff Teat-esque traits.

5️⃣ Redwoods (via Chaos): Emmet Carroll, Goalie, Penn. With the pick originally belonging to the Chaos, the Redwoods select their goalie of the future in Carroll. He’s a big-body space-eater in cage (6-3, 205 lbs.), much like the goalie who went 5th overall in last year’s draft — Liam Entenmann.

6️⃣ Atlas: Levi Verch, LSM/Defense, St. Joe’s. Between Gavin Adler, Brett Makar and Tyler Carpenter, Atlas head coach Mike Pressler has been hoarding some of the best young long poles in the league. He adds one more to his collection in Verch, who can play close defense or up top as a long-stick midfielder.

7️⃣ Whipsnakes: Coulter Mackesy, Attack, Princeton. Mackesy falling this far would be a dream scenario for Whipsnakes head coach Jim Stagnitta. Matt Rambo and Rob Pannell aren’t getting any younger. Mackesy would slot in nicely with TJ Malone and Matt Brandau as the potential future of Maryland’s attack.

8️⃣ Archers: Jake Taylor, Attack, Notre Dame. Aren’t you not supposed to pick crease finishers in Round 1? Archers head coach Chris Bates doesn’t follow the rules. If he sees a player he likes, he’ll “reach” for him. Right now, he’s probably picturing Jake Taylor finishing a million feeds from Tom Schreiber and Grant Ament.

🎙️ Paul Carcaterra Joins the Pehlke Show!

Craving an in-depth conversation about College Lacrosse and the PLL Draft? We had ESPN analyst Paul Carcaterra on the Mitchell Pehlke Lacrosse Show for a 90-minute conversation this week.

Watch the full interview in the video player below.

While talking PLL Draft and his new Big Board, Carcaterra dropped some spicy takes. He described Cornell attackman CJ Kirst as a “generational” talent and said he’s a lock to go No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia Waterdogs.

“It’s more obvious to me than any other year I’ve been covering the draft,” Carcaterra said about the eventual No. 1 pick.

Carcaterra also identified midfielders Andrew McAdorey (Duke) and Sam English (Syracuse) as the next safest bets in this draft class, while casting some doubt on Harvard attackman Sam King’s long-term potential in the PLL.

“If you’re going to be an investment banker, guys, I’m going to be honest, I’m not drafting you,” Carcaterra said.

When the conversation transitioned into College Lacrosse and the current landscape, Carcaterra says it’s an “eight- or nine-team” race for this year’s NCAA Championship. One blue blood team that he sees on the outside of that race is Duke.

“Right now, I’m not seeing it,” Carcaterra said of Duke as a potential Championship Weekend contender.
