🍿 FINAL ELIMINATION TONIGHT

Archers Homecoming Weekend in Utah | What's On The Line And Who's Heading Home?

It all ends tonight for one PLL team.

The California Redwoods are expected to join the Philadelphia Waterdogs as the second team eliminated from playoff contention, but there’s still a chance they pull off a miracle. Here’s what needs to happen…

  1. California must defeat Utah (could happen)

  2. Boston must defeat Carolina (kinda likely)

  3. California must make up 23 points in score differential (impossible??)

Basically, both of tonight’s games need to be historic blowouts for the Redwoods to leap the Chaos and qualify for the playoffs. If California beats Utah by 11 goals, then Boston beats Carolina by 12 goals, the ‘Woods will be rolling into the playoffs. Cue the Lloyd Christmas meme…

Below is a full slate of this weekend’s regular-season finale, followed by a couple other key storylines for Saturday.

Friday, 8 p.m. ET — California vs. Utah (ESPN+)
Friday, 10:30 p.m. ET — Boston vs. Carolina (ESPN+)
Saturday, 6:30 p.m. ET — New York vs. Philadelphia (ABC/ESPN+)
Saturday, 9 p.m. ET — Denver vs. Utah (ESPN2/ESPN+)

Conference Champions: For the first time ever, the PLL will name Eastern and Western Conference Champions this weekend. The New York Atlas have all but mathematically locked up the East with their 7-2 record and +28 score differential. The West will come down to Denver vs. Utah in the final game of the regular season, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2 on Saturday night. The conference champs will receive the top two seeds in the PLL Playoffs and a first-round bye.

Teat’s Final Tally: Atlas attackman Jeff Teat will put the finishing touches on his record-shattering regular season against the Waterdogs on Saturday. After breaking the single-season points record weeks ago, Teat stands at 58 points heading into his final game of the season. If he hits his season average of 6.4 points per game, Teat will eclipse the previous points record (44) by 20 points. That could stand for quite some time as a potentially unbreakable record.

Rookie of the Year Race: With Atlas attackman Connor Shellenberger out this weekend, the 2024 PLL Rookie of the Year race comes down to Maryland’s TJ Malone and Denver’s Brennan O’Neill. Malone ranks second in the league with 37 points on the season, but the Whipsnakes have a bye this weekend, so his stat line is final. O’Neill has 28 points and a few more eye-popping moments than Malone. If the No. 1 overall pick has a strong outing against the Archers on Saturday night, he could secure ROTY over Malone — who is widely considered the “steal of the draft” as a third-round selection.

🙏 Thank You For Celebrating #PlayLaxDay

Yesterday was our ninth annual #PlayLaxDay celebration. Every year on August 15, we encourage our followers to get outside, play lacrosse with friends, and grow the game within their local communities.

We received a ton of video submissions from our fans, including this one from Boston Cannons attackmen Asher Nolting and Marcus Holman.

We received submissions from 22 different states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

We also received submissions from 13 different countries outside of the United States: Canada, China, Colombia, Czechia, France, Jamaica, Latvia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, and the United Kingdom.

Thank you so much to everyone who celebrated and submitted a video. Stay tuned for our full recap video, and let’s run it back even bigger next year!

💜 Haudenosaunee Push For Olympics

With the conclusion of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Lacrosse fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of Olympic Sixes in 2028 at Los Angeles.

It remains to be determined whether the Haudenosaunee Nationals will be allowed to compete in the Olympics under their own flag, but until that decision is final, they will continue to make their voices heard.

“This is our sport,” Haudenosaunee National Lacrosse Organization board member Rex Lyons said in a recent interview with ABC 9 in Syracuse. “If you want to have the best lacrosse players [at the Olympics], the Haudenosaunee better be there.”

The Haudenosaunee finished third in the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship (Field) and fifth in the 2022 World Games (Sixes). The U20 women’s team is currently competing in Hong Kong, China, after traveling for the first time ever with official Haudenosaunee passports. This is a positive development for the indigenous nation when it comes to potential Olympic inclusion in 2028.

🇺🇸 Spallina Headlines USA Box Roster

The United States announced their 23-man roster for the upcoming World Lacrosse Men’s Box Championship in Utica, N.Y. in September, and the youngest player on the roster is Syracuse attackman Joey Spallina.

Spallina is fresh off a Junior A championship with the Orangeville Northmen in the OJLL. The former No. 1 overall recruit out of Mount Sinai, N.Y. recorded 93 points (45 goals, 48 assists) as a sophomore at Syracuse last spring, which ranked third most in NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse.

The only other current college player on the Team USA 23-man roster is Cornell attackman CJ Kirst, a potential No. 1 pick in next year’s PLL Draft.

🌏 LoPinto Leads U20 Women in China

The World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China is underway, and the Unites States are off to an extremely hot start. The Americans played Germany to open the tournament and won the game 33-0.

Boston College attacker Emma LoPinto, who helped lift the Eagles to an NCAA Championship over Northwestern this past spring, earned Player of the Game honors after racking up nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) against Germany.

The United States and China are both 1-0 in Pool A. The Americans will face Puerto Rico next in pool play. Elimination games will start next week on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
