🔥 PLL Throwback Weekend

All eight PLL teams will take on a vintage look this weekend in Fairfield, Connecticut. This year’s throwback theme stretches back to the earliest days of modern lacrosse, and the old-school logos are awesome. Check them out below…

The Carolina Chaos logo and uniform design is particularly interesting, because it’s a hat tip to NC State’s once-powerful NCAA Division I program. From 1973-1982, the Wolfpack were contenders in the ACC and peaked with multiple rankings inside the top 10 nationally. Stan Cockerton (father of PLL player Mark Cockerton) was an All-American at NC State from 1977-80 and still ranks first in NCAA history with 4.39 career goals per game (min. 90 goals).

Flashing forward to this weekend, there are a couple big matchups to watch. The Philadelphia Waterdogs (1-4) are in do-or-die mode against the Denver Outlaws (2-2) tonight. On Saturday, the top two teams in the Eastern Conference — the New York Atlas (5-1) and Boston Cannons (4-2) — will square off in the Game of the Week on ABC and ESPN+.

Here’s the full weekend slate with watch links…

Friday, 6 p.m. ET — Denver vs. Philadelphia (ESPN+)
Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET — Carolina vs. Maryland (ESPN+)
Saturday, 3 p.m. ET — New York vs. Boston (ABC/ESPN+)
Saturday, 5:30 p.m. ET — Utah vs. California (ESPN+)

🎮 Lacrosse Video Game!?

The return of EA Sports’ NCAA Football video game series has taken over social media this week, and it got us thinking…how sick would it be to have a college lacrosse video game? We decided to design a cover to see if other fans felt the same way.

“I’m praying that one day they actually make a lacrosse game,” one Instagram user commented on our post.

Daydreaming about a lacrosse video game is one thing, but is it actually realistic to make one? PLL co-founders Mike and Paul Rabil actually answered that question recently in Episode 3 of the One on Ones podcast.

“The good news is,” Paul Rabil said, “with new technology and new hardware, the costs have gone down. But to create a proper FIFA-style game — which by the way, I want to do — is going to require a co-investment from a major studio.”

We haven’t seen a new lacrosse console game since Casey Powell Lacrosse 2018, but our fingers are crossed that an NCAA or PLL video game will be in the works soon.

📈 TLN at Apex Youth Games

We were on-site for Apex Youth Games in Bel Air, Maryland this week, and the talent level at this event was impressive. These kids are in middle school and already doing things we rarely see at the PLL level.

Check out this behind-the-back dodge by Charlie Young, listed as a face-off athlete in the Class of 2030, for example…

Something tells me this kid is gonna do more than take face-offs at the next level.

Part of the reason why the players at Apex look so good is because they’re being coached by actual pros. Marcus Holman, Asher Nolting, Ryan Drenner, Bryan Costabile, Colin Kirst, Connor Shellenberger, Shane Knobloch and Liam Entenmann were among the PLL athletes who served as coaches at this event.

TLN will be back on site in Bel Air next week for Apex 60, which is one of the biggest college recruiting showcases on the summer circuit. Stay tuned!
