🔙 THROWBACKS HIT DENVER

PLL Turns Back The Clock With Retro Uniforms, Logos | Updated Clinching Scenarios

No professional sports league harnesses the power of nostalgia quite like the Premier Lacrosse League does for Throwback Weekend.

All eight teams play in Denver this weekend, and for the second year in a row they will wear throwback uniforms. Here’s a look at the extremely popular line of porthole mesh jerseys:

On top of the uniforms, the PLL also unveiled alternate throwback logos for this weekend. Which one is your favorite?

Lastly, teams will wear vintage-style gloves from Warrior Lacrosse to complete the retro fit.

These uniforms and logos are a big win for the league, as they’ve caught the attention of non-lacrosse fans who simply enjoy the aesthetic of throwbacks in sports. Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net and the account “NFL Fashion Advice,” which has over 30,000 followers, are among those who have covered/commented on the PLL throwbacks.

Several others have come out with PLL throwback uniform rankings, with the Cannons being a popular pick for No. 1. Is that because they’re the only team with a city — BOSTON — emblazoned across the chest? It’ll be interesting to see what the league does next year, when all eight teams have a home city.

🔒 Clinching Scenarios in Denver

The Archers and Cannons have already clinched spots in the 2023 PLL Playoffs. As many as four more teams can clinch a playoff spot this weekend in Denver. Below are the scenarios for each team…

WATERDOGS CLINCH WITH:
- Waterdogs win *OR*
- Archers win

CHAOS CLINCH WITH:
- Chaos win *OR*
- Archers win *OR*
- Chrome win AND Waterdogs win AND Cannons win

REDWOODS CLINCH WITH:

WHIPSNAKES CLINCH WITH:

The only teams that cannot clinch a playoff spot this weekend are Atlas (2-5) and Chrome (1-6). They are currently the bottom two teams in the PLL standings, and only the top seven teams make the playoffs.

While the Archers and Cannons have already locked up their spots in the playoffs, they can clinch spots in next year’s Championship Series this weekend in Denver.

👀 Jones, Dennis Both Active

After being traded earlier this week, Myles Jones (Atlas) and Romar Dennis (Redwoods) both made the active game-day rosters with their new teams. Here’s a look at the lineup for each squad:

Jones has not appeared in a game since July 14, and Dennis has not registered a point since July 8. It will be interesting to see whether either player will make an immediate impact with their new team in Denver.

🥍 #PlayLaxDay is Next Week

#PlayLaxDay is next Tuesday, Aug. 15. Here’s a video from 2020, where the original TLN creators Colin and Samir explain the origin of this annual holiday:

We’re celebrating again this year and need your help. Please film yourself playing lacrosse (anywhere!) and post it to social media with the hashtag #PlayLaxDay. We’ll share your post to our Instagram story, and together we can help grow the game.

Lastly, if you have an extra stick lying around, share it with a friend or neighbor who has never played. #PlayLaxDay is all about getting outside and sharing the game we love with others.
