USA Lacrosse Experience Kicks off in Indianapolis | Kavanagh, Entenmann Go Head-to-Head on Pat McAfee Show

The road to the 2028 Olympics goes through Indianapolis this weekend, as the United States men’s and women’s teams are set to compete in Sixes at the inaugural USA Lacrosse Experience.

The other countries with men’s and women’s teams at the event are Great Britain, Colombia and Puerto Rico.

The USA men’s team features 16 PLL players and one current college player: Notre Dame attackman Jake Taylor. He is reunited with a few of his former Fighting Irish teammates — Pat Kavanagh, Liam Entenmann and Brian Tevlin — on the roster. The team is coached by Yale head coach Andy Shay.

The USA women’s team features both Charlotte North and Izzy Scane, who combined to win the past four Tewaaraton Awards. Twelve of the 17 players on the roster played college ball at either Boston College, North Carolina or Northwestern.

There are a handful of familiar NCAA names on the other rosters, most notably the Puerto Rico men’s team. They have former Syracuse goalie Will Mark in net — as well as Brandon Aviles (Syracuse/Johns Hopkins), Donovan Lacey (Maryland), Joshua Balcarcel (Marist) and several other D1 players.

☘️ Pat Kavanagh Returns to McAfee Show

One of the greatest bromances in sports right now is the one between Pat Kavanagh and Pat McAfee. While in Indy for the USA Lacrosse Experience, the Boston Cannons rookie made his first in-studio appearance on McAfee’s live ESPN show on Thursday.

Kavanagh’s former Notre Dame and current Team USA teammate Liam Entenmann was also on the show. Entenmann suited up in net, and the McAfee crew held a shootout challenge in the “Thunder Dome” to give away 600 lacrosse sticks.

During the interview portion of the appearance, Kavanagh explained the differences between Sixes and traditional Field Lacrosse to the McAfee crew. He said that the Team USA training camp in Indy this week is the first step toward fielding a competitive team at the Olympics in 2028.

“It’s gonna be the toughest lacrosse team to make in the history of the sport,” Kavanagh told the McAfee crew.

Kavanagh then went on to say that USA has “a lot of work to do in Sixes” after losing to Canada by double-digits in the Gold Medal game at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.

🇯🇵 Rutgers Hosts Team From Japan

The men’s lacrosse team at Keio University (a college in Japan) is currently on a USA tour, and TLN was on-site in Piscataway, N.J. for their scrimmage against Rutgers on Wednesday.

No official score was kept, but the match was competitive. In addition to their scrimmage against Rutgers, Keio also scheduled scrimmages against Manhattan, Monmouth and Fairfield for this tour.

Lacrosse is growing rapidly in Japan. The country currently ranks 5th in Men’s Field, 8th in Men’s Box and 3rd in Men’s Sixes. That last ranking bodes well for their chances at the 2028 Olympics.

🏆 NCAA Names Future Championship Sites

The NCAA announced two future host sites for the Men’s Lacrosse Championship Weekend last week. The 2027 Championship will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, while the 2028 Championship will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

After the past two Championship Weekends were held in Philadelphia, the NCAA will return to Foxborough in 2025. Foxborough was originally slated to host the 2026 Championship, as well, but Gillette Stadium has since won a bid to host FIFA Men’s World Cup games in 2026. Due to the scheduling conflict, the NCAA’s 2026 host site remains undetermined.

Will the NCAA Championship Weekend ever return to Baltimore? It’s one of the biggest lacrosse hot beds in the country, yet Baltimore has not hosted a Championship Weekend since 2014.
