🤝 Pat & Chris Kavanagh Share POTW

On Saturday, Notre Dame (4-0) took down Maryland (3-2) on the road in triple OT. The Irish’s Pat and Chris Kavanagh shared TLN’s Player of the Week not for their final stat lines in the win, but for what they did in the clutch.

Chris, a sophomore, had a hat trick. He swept righty past Dante Trader to tie the game at 9-9 early in the fourth quarter. Then with 2:06 left in regulation, he slipped underneath Ajax Zappitello and delivered an improbable diving backhand shot to tie the game at 12-12.

After two scoreless OT periods, older brother Pat broke out the perfect move against Brett Makar, who had limited his assignment to just two assists at that point. It wasn’t anything special — a casual lefty sweep and a well-placed bounce shot— but with Makar sitting on a righty rollback that never came, it was the last thing the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year expected.

What the Kavanaghs pulled off against the Terps was epic. Before Saturday, Maryland had not lost a home game since 2019.

🔀 First Ever PLL Free Agency

The PLL’s first-ever free agency period is underway, and Day 1 saw the split of longtime Archers teammates Will Manny and Marcus Holman.

Manny signed with the Whipsnakes through 2024. He’ll bring a strong veteran presence and a lightning-quick release to a team that is always a championship contender (so long as they’re not playing Sixes).

Holman signed with the Cannons on a one-year deal. His father, Brian Holman, recently took over as the team’s new head coach and is looking to build a winning roster around Lyle Thompson.

🫵 Hey Look, It's Penn State!

It’s March 7 and Penn State (4-1) has already eclipsed its win total from last season. The last two wins — upsets over Yale and Penn — have been particularly impressive.

It wasn’t so long ago, when the Nittany Lions were the No. 1 team in the country and vying for a natty. But then COVID happened and Grant Ament went pro; wins have been few and far between ever since.

So far this season, there’s hope for Penn State. Will that hope be squashed during their trip to Cornell this Saturday? A third straight Ivy League upset would be wild…

🧐 Who Will Win The Big East?

The Big East might be the most interesting conference in college lacrosse right now. This is how things look as of today…

Georgetown: Entered the season as a unanimous top-five team, but started 0-3 out of the gates. The Hoyas may be finding their stride, as they just picked up a nice win over Princeton.

Villanova: A one-loss team with wins over Penn State and Delaware. Matt Campbell is the type of midfielder who can put the team on his back in a big game.

Denver: Grind-it-out lacrosse with tough defense and dominance at the face-off dot. Classic Bill Tierney, who surely wants to win one more before retirement.

Marquette and Providence aren’t pushovers; even St. John’s could win a conference game this season. Let’s get weird, Big East!
